The project was the subject of an agreement between the Department for the Digitization of Public Administration and Technological Innovation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Department of Information and Communication Technologies of the CNR. The CNR Institutes involved were ICAR, IIT, and the URT “Systems of Indexing and Classification” of the Production Systems Department. The project aimed to develop a suite of software components of the InFSE infrastructure, whose architectural model was designed in a previous project. The core components developed, called OpenInFSE, has been made available to the Regions and Autonomous Provinces and to all the actors involved. The release of the components allowed the first experimentation on the interregional interoperability of the Electronic Health Record (EHR), which involved the interchange of some health documents between the Regions Calabria, Campania, and Piedmont. This experimentation was presented on 4 July 2012 at Palazzo Vidoni in the presence of Ministers of Public Administration and Innovation, Health, and Education, University and Research. Furthermore, the results obtained have been used in the IPSE national interoperability project linked to the European epSOS project. The IPSE project, which was attended by 9 Regions and 1 Autonomous Province, had as its objective the interchange of the patient summary and of the prescriptions among the regional EHR systems. The adoption of the InFSE guidelines and the OpenInFSE software components allowed to carry out a further experimentation on interregional interoperability of the EHR and to validate the proposed approach. The project also aimed to develop models for the integration of value-added services for the citizen, consistent with the reorganization strategies of the care processes that provide an increasingly incisive role of home care, with particular reference to services for the rapid integration of a wide class of remote patient monitoring sensors, for the partial pre-analysis of data on mobile or embedded devices, for the transmission of data generated to remote monitoring stations, for the complete analysis and remote storage.
